Grandma Baby's 52 Blues Playing Cards

Playing cards are a long beloved staple of Black American (Hoodoo) culture with deep ancestral roots.

This playing card deck is a tribute to the sacred Blues that make up Black life. Woven with lullabies and spirituals, spanning an ocean of grief and the most alchemical joy this world has ever known. This deck is guaranteed to enchant the archivist, historian, storyteller, spades player and diviner alike; all while immersing you in the haintest of Blues and holiest of Blacks. The Jokers in this deck are Mercury dimes, a nod to old Black Southern folk remedies. The Spades suit is composed of verses from the Book of Psalms. Among the many faces of this deck are singers, preachers, folklorists, saints, musicians, midwives and the formerly enslaved. This deck is a love letter to the richness of the Black spiritual landscape. Each deck contains 55 circular 80x80mm playing cards (52 regular cards plus 2 jokers and 1 bonus 'Thank You' card) printed on 350gsm art paper with a silk matte finish. Cards are embellished with gold ink, black holographic foil stamping and blue matte edges––nestled inside a 111x111x37mm square blue magnetic box with a black EVA insert to hold the deck in place.

SUSU commUNITY exists upon the stolen abenaki land, presently known as vermont. we acknowledge the nulhegan band of the coosuk abenaki nation, koasek abenaki tribe, elnu abenaki tribe, and the missiquoi abenaki tribe. we pay homage to our afro-indigenous ancestors. the ones who planted seeds of liberation against all odds, and to the ones who chose the water. we are because you are.
